Chester (Chet) Warzynski was appointed executive director of the Office of Organizational Development at the Georgia Institute of Technology in July 2009. Reporting to the executive vice president, he leads a department of 13 professionals providing professional development and organizational consulting services in leadership development, strategic planning, organization design, process improvement, training, and career services.

He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from Southern Illinois University and a Master of Arts degree in sociology from the University of Western Ontario. He did post-graduate studies in educational planning at the University of Toronto.

Prior to his appointment at Georgia Tech, he held a number of leadership positions in both higher education and business in the U.S. and Canada. He began his career as an assistant registrar at the University of Western Ontario and eventually moved to the health care industry as director of staff education at St. Joseph’s Hospital. From there he relocated to Miami, Florida as director of education and training at Mercy Hospital where he developed an executive outreach program in stress management that lead to his own management consulting business. After twelve years in consulting, he accepted a position with one of his clients, Ottaway Newspapers, a subsidiary of Dow Jones, as director of training, corporate planning, and new venture development. In 1995 he decided to return to higher education and was appointed director of organizational development services at Cornell University. While at Cornell, he taught undergraduate and graduate courses in management, leadership, and personal and organizational development. He also taught strategic management in the business school at Ithaca College.

Chet has published articles in professional and academic journals and book chapters on leadership, strategic planning, business process reengineering, project management, and human resource development. He has served on the board of directors of the Red Cross, National Consortium for Continuous Improvement in Higher Education, and the 7th Art Theater Group. Recently, he served on the Leadership Advisory Committee of the State University of New York system to design and deliver a curriculum of leadership development programs for executives, deans, and faculty.
